Lenin portrait, 1924, Irakli Gamrekeli, USSR -- Daily LIFT #1639

Irakli Gamrekeli (5 May 1894 – 10 May 1943) was a famed and popular Soviet Georgian artist noted for his avant-garde stage design. Because of his continued popularity attempts have been made to scrub the fact that he was a Soviet artist from the historical record. He was an Honored Artist of the Georgian SSR and was awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor of the USSR.
